The 2nd annual CARE FND symposium will once again be held for a full day preceding the INA/Section of Neuropsychiatry Congress in Melbourne, focussing on contemporary developments in FND translational research and clinical care. The program will be of strong interest to all healthcare professionals involved in caring for people with FND, including psychiatry, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, occupational therapy, psychology, physiotherapy and speech pathology.

Topic: Psychedelic Assisted Therapy – an Australian Perspective

Session Overview: The recent changes to the regulation of psilocybin and MDMA by Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) have created a unique scenario for Australian Psychiatrists. Under an Authorised Prescriber (AP) scheme, underpinned by treatment protocols approved first by a human research ethics committee and then the TGA, psychiatrists who achieve AP approval may now prescribe psilocybin for patients with treatment resistant depression (TRD) and MDMA for patients with post traumatic disorder (PTSD), in both instances as part of a program of psychedelic assisted therapy (PAT).

Australia is the first country in the world to allow use of MDMA and psilocybin outside of clinical trial or special access schemes. This symposium will provide the audience with an overview of key clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of PAT, insights into the potential modes of action of psilocybin and MDMA in the management of treatment resistant mental illness, and discuss the critical role of psychotherapy in this integrated treatment regimen.

Prof Sundram will draw on his own clinical experience to discuss key aspects of translating clinical trials to practice. Learning outcomes are for attendees at the symposium to have greater understanding of this emerging therapeutic area, how patients in their own practice may benefit from treatment, what the current referral pathways are in order to access treatment, and what steps they may take if they decide to become involved in PAT themselves.

Accommodation options are available for your selection within close proximity to the Congress venue. More information about accommodation options can be found on the website.

Please note: 

  • A valid credit card number must be provided to secure your booking. The card details will be forwarded to the hotel as a guarantee of your booking  
  • You will be required to settle your room and incidental expenses direct with the hotel on departure    
  • If you wish to pre pay your accommodation in advance by credit card or EFT upon invoice, please note this in the 'special requirements' section on the next page when completing your accommodation booking  
  • Accommodation is held from Saturday 26 October 2024 to Tuesday 29 October 2024. If you require dates outside of this period, please note your preferred dates in the 'special requirements' section. The Delegate Services Team will contact the hotel directly on your behalf and advise you of availability.
  • Please note the terms and conditions for cancellation (or reduction by one or more nights) or no-shows for each hotel when considering your options. 


Deadlines
The hotels impose strict release dates of 30 days prior to arrival, so any bookings made after Thursday 26 September 2024 will be subject to availability.

To make a subsequent change or to cancel your booking, notification must be made via email to the Congress Office.  Verbal changes or cancellations cannot be accepted nor will the hotels accept any changes direct.

REGISTRATION SUMMARY

Cancellation and refund terms and conditions

Voluntary cancellation 

  • Should you decide to cancel your registration, the following refunds will apply from the date of receipt of notification: 
  • On or before Friday 26 July 2024: 100% refund less an administration fee of $110 including GST  
  • On or before Monday 26 August 2024: 75% refund less an administration fee of $110 including GST   
  • On of before Thursday 26 September 2024: 50% refund less an administration fee of $110 including GST  
  • After Thursday 26 September 2024: No refund available

Refunds will be returned by the same payment method as the original receipt of funds. 

No refund will be made after Thursday 26 September 2024, however an alternative delegate name may be provided by email and the booking and funds will be allocated accordingly. 

Please note no refund or discount will be made if a function or event inclusive within the registration fee is not taken up, or if you subsequently cancel your participation in that function or event. 

Optional social event tickets may be cancelled on or before Thursday 26 September 2024 and will be refunded in full by the same payment method as the original receipt of funds. After Thursday 26 September 2024 no refunds will be made, however an alternative delegate name may be provided by email and the booking and funds will be allocated accordingly.

If accommodation has been secured through the Congress website, please refer to the individual cancellation terms and conditions for each individual hotel. 

In the case of extenuating circumstances, a refund outside of these terms and conditions may be considered by and at the discretion of the 2024 International Congress on Neuropsychiatry (INA2024) upon application.

If the Congress converts to a hybrid format in-person to virtual or virtual to in-person registrations, may be permitted and will be processed on a case-by-case basis following application to the Congress office.

Congress cancellation or postponement 
INA2024 may cancel or postpone the Congress due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to Acts of God, terrorism, war, strikes or industrial action, fire, explosion, inevitable accident, breakdown of property, changes in law, or pandemics or global health crises. Due to the nature of the event, it may be reasonable to postpone the event to a later year and/or to change the location for the Congress. 

In the event the Congress is not able to proceed as planned, and is moved to a virtual format, your registration will be transferred to a virtual registration. If you choose not to attend the virtual Congress, INA2024 will not be required to refund any part of the Congress registration fee.

In the event of postponement of the Congress, if, when requested, you advise that you are willing to attend the rescheduled Congress, INA2024 will transfer the registration and guarantee the same conditions and equivalent registration entitlements (subject to reasonable modification and availability) at the rescheduled event. If, at a later date, you then choose not to attend the rescheduled Congress, INA2024 will not be required to refund any part of the Congress registration fee. 

In the event of a full cancellation of the Congress by RANZCP or the INA, you will be entitled to a full refund of the amount of the Congress registration fee received.

The maximum liability of the 2024 International Congress on Neuropsychiatry under these Terms and Conditions is limited to a refund of the Congress registration fee with no additional liability for travel costs, hotel costs, or any other associated costs.

Delegate cancellation – medical
If, on medical grounds, you are unable to attend the Congress, you must cancel your in-person attendance in writing by email to ina2024@wsm.com.au. A virtual registration will then be offered, with any difference in price refunded. A full refund may be provided at the discretion of INA2024, however you may be asked to provide additional details.

Insurance
Participants are strongly advised to secure appropriate travel and health insurance. Delegate registration fees do not provide any such insurance coverage. INA2024 and the Congress Office accept no responsibility for any loss in this regard.

By registering, you acknowledge and consent that during your attendance at the Congress your image or voice may be recorded via video, photography or by any other means by an officer or official of the Congress, which may be distributed or published at the discretion of the Congress. If you do not wish to be recorded, you are required to formally advise the Congress Office in advance by email.
